Headlining 99.7 The Blitz’s Summer Smokeout celebration was Disturbed. Disturbed does not need an introduction having sold over 17 million records worldwide. They are considered one of the most successful rock bands in the last few decades. Five of their seven studio albums have hit number one on the Billboard 200. Disturbed announced the release of their new album, Divisive, on the same day of the show. The new album is available for pre-order and will be released in November. Disturbed is a seasoned band and always puts on an awesome live performance. Personally, my favorite part was watching Dan Donegan tear it up on the guitar but everything was solid. I’m pretty sure everyone in the crowd was ‘down with the sickness’ that night. If not then, they certainly were the next morning because it was one huge Summer Smokeout party.

This Los Angeles band has everything you think of when it comes to ‘rock n roll’ music – swagger, showmanship, energy, shredding. Dirty Honey has IT. I am not surprised they were the first unsigned band to ever hit number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart with their single When I’m Gone. They formed in 2017 and within just a short few years, even through a worldwide pandemic, began touring with the likes of Guns N Roses, The Who, Goodbye June, Skillet, Alter Bridge and Disturbed. If you love rock music, then you will definitely love Dirty Honey live. They are a lot like Aerosmith, AC/DC, ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin all rolled up into one. The ONE complaint that I have was the volume on the vocals. At no fault of the band, the audio mix was messed up and Marc LeBelle’s vocals were almost nonexistent. Now I have to see them again because it was almost as if I was listening to an instrumental rock band.

Harmless Habit, a Columbus, Ohio based rock band that hit the scene in 2015, is comprised of Joey Vece (vocals), John Suh (guitar), Rinn Rucker (drums), Nick Fratianne (bass), and Max Miller (guitar). They opened for Dirty Honey and Disturbed at this year’s CD 99.7 The Blitz’s Summer Smokeout concert series. Their energy was insane.. and infectious. The sound was big and they commanded the stage. Honestly, they rocked the sh$t out of it and the crowd followed suit. This was the first time that I’ve seen Harmless Habit and it won’t be the last. I look forward to following the band’s upward trajectory and seeing them again in the near future. Next up for them is an opening spot for Dread Engine at the Newport Music Hall on October 28th.
